Our Test Shoot

Here is out edited test shoot, which we tried to create as accurately as we could to what our music video could potentially look like. We used our timeline, as a resource to follow and tried different arrangements of the band and what it might look like when destroying and ripping up things, mostly to capture the aimed tone, and test our ideas.

Here's the video:

Call Sheet

Here is a blacked-out version of our call sheet, which we created in order to have our cast's contact information on the shoot day. This means no matter what, we can remain organized and in contact in case anything happens, this sheet aids in not only the health and safety but also our time management and efficiency.

Lighting Presentation

Here is the lighting presentation which we used to explain our ideas to the Lighting technician who will be working with us on our shoot day:

Our test shoot- Plan

We planned our test shoot for the week, we messaged our group on the chat we created using Whatsapp and let them know a few days in advance that we had planned a test shoot with them for Monday, and told them to wear outfits which they think fit the theme and genre of our piece, which meant they showed up wearing leather, fish-net tights, etc. All of this from their own closet. This gave us a good idea of what we liked to see each band member in, and allowed the band members themselves to have another chance to get to know each other and build some personal dynamics.

We booked the armadillo room 4 days in advance and let the band know early so they could have time to listen to the song again over the weekend and re-fresh on the lyrics or chords. We planned to split the work, since I was unable to attend the shoot itself, I planned to edit the shoot together while the rest of the team would film and direct the band on that Monday.

We put together a timeline and planned to shoot according to this, so when we look back on it, it would look similar to the actual video. This will give us a good idea of what works and what doesn't, and what we really like, depending on the outcome.

Our Storyboard- Final

This is our final storyboard which we created together in order to have a better idea of where and how everything would look on the shooting day. My production crew and I drew and wrote a description of each shot within the plan in order to create a clear idea which we could all picture and work together to create when it comes to our shooting day. Here's the final storyboard:

Back-up Cast

Due to the recent complications which the global pandemic has provided, we needed to plan ahead in case someone is unexpectedly absent due to abrupt isolations or testing. This is especially vital since our school has recently had a covid "outbreak", and we're conscious of the possible spread and complications.

Although, ideally we should have our planned cast, here's our backup cast:

Lead- Bea Hemsley

Guitarist- Leonie Biney

Base- Elodie Muncey

Drummer- Neave Van't Riet

Costume Research

I began to look for possible costume results with Georgie, since we want to order two, in order to save one and destroy another, the dresses can't be overpriced or difficult to destroy. We had certain requirements, they need to be pink and fit the style and dress of the 2000s era we're inspired by. WE also want to be inclusive to all the members of our band, so we need to ensure they're accommodating to multiple different body types.

Here are some of the dresses I found while researching:

Our Set Design- Prop list and correspondance

This week, we had a meeting with our set designer, Fran, who walked us through the ins and outs of our set, she recommended cutting down some things to lessen complications and de-clutter the set, for instance, the wardrobe and bedside table are no longer going to be on the set at all, she also requested a list that she could use in order to find what we wanted.

First, we created a visual setlist, with pictures included:

Second, we created an actual list which she could use to see exactly what she needed:

Our Storyboard- My contribution

This is my contribution to the overall storyboard we created as a group, we each took a portion of the work, some wanted to do writings, some drew, and some did a little of both. I drew these 6 pages, Tegan Howard wrote the descriptions, and we worked together to create an entire finalized storyboard.

 Here is my contribution:

Costume and Make-up 1

In order to further our previous ideas about costumes and clothing we plan to dress the band members in, I drew up a few sheets of possible dress designs. Here are the pages I drew up, as you can see, I've drawn both the prom dresses before being destroyed and after, as well as possible ideas for the "normal clothing" costumes we plan to dress them in our final set-up. I was sure to keep in mind the era in which we plan to set this, heavily inspired by early 200s fashion and what sorts of styles would look best, we decided as a group that we would rather have the band in floor-length prom dresses to make them seem more formal and uniform, this also simply becomes easier when we plan to destroy them, as there is more material to work with.

Here are the sheets:

Taking Photos

Over the week, When seeing members of our band, I took pictures of them in their costumes on Wednesday, and throughout the week, in order to be able to have content to upload to the social media we will eventually create, here are some of the pictures I took:

Rehearsal 1

This is the edited footage from our first rehearsal. We aimed to familiarize the band with not only each other and begin to explore their own dynamics, but also to create a performance with the four of them together. Here is the footage I edited:

Development of Concept

In order to further develop our concept, we assigned ourselves some targets in order to plan and organize our idea further. We were hyper-aware that our idea has the potential to become "cheesy" "cliche" or seem artificial, and so in order to combat this, we thought of multiple ideas and actions the band could do in order to create variety within our video.

Here's what we did:
